Gold trades like nothing else. Our AI is built for it.

XAU/USD is the most reactive instrument on most retail tape — news-sensitive, volatility-clustered, regime-switching twice a session. iQntX's 32-agent fund engine reads the gold tape the way a real precious-metals desk does, with a Risk Gate that respects gold's quirks instead of pretending they don't exist.

Why gold needs its own AI

Gold (XAU/USD) is the most quirky instrument on the average retail trading screen. It moves to a different beat than FX majors. It reacts to news on a different schedule than equity indices. Its spread can widen 5-10x during a single FOMC press conference. It has fixing times that produce reliable volatility spikes. Its correlation to risk-on / risk-off shifts depending on whether the market is treating it as a safe-haven or as a USD-rates trade.

An AI trading system that treats XAU/USD like another EUR/USD will lose to those quirks. iQntX's 32-agent fund engine is designed to handle them — same architecture, instrument-specific calibration.

The five gold-specific behaviors

1. Spread-aware Risk Gate

Gold's spread widens during news to a degree that EUR/USD never does. The Risk Gate reads broker spread at the moment of signing and refuses setups whose tolerance is exceeded. For gold, the default tolerance is wider than for FX majors — but the gate enforces it strictly.

2. Fixing-window blackouts

London (10:30am UK) and New York (3:00pm ET) gold fixings produce reliable volatility spikes. The system flags both as elevated-volatility windows and tightens the Risk Gate around them. AGGRESSIVE stance is unavailable during fixings; DEFENSIVE may be active if macro conditions warrant.

3. Real-rate-aware Macro Officer

The Macro Officer reads US real rates and the DXY as primary inputs for gold stance. Real-rate rising = headwind for gold; real-rate falling = tailwind. The Macro stance feeds the CEO's overall stance setting.

4. Asia-session size restriction

Asia-session gold has lower liquidity and wider spreads. AGGRESSIVE stance is disabled by default during Asia session. Operators can override with awareness of the trade-off.

5. Central-bank-buying signal

Periods of disclosed central bank gold buying (Q4 2022 onward has been such a period) are flagged in the Intelligence Department's reports. This is a slow-moving macro signal that affects the strategy bank composition rather than per-trade decisions.

The MT5 stack for gold

The technical setup is identical to iQntX's general MT5 configuration (see the broader MT5 setup →):

  1. MT5 client logged into your broker.
  2. Hardened EA attached to a XAU/USD chart. Captures charts and posts to the local FastAPI ingress; executes directives that come back.
  3. Brain running as a Windows service under NSSM on the same machine. The 32 agents reason over the gold-specific configuration.
  4. Watchdog running outside the brain. L4 HALT authority over everything.

The brain and EA communicate only on localhost. No network exposure. No third-party broker integration. Your broker sees an EA on a chart — the same as any other MT5 EA.

Compatibility checklist

  • Broker: Any MT5-compatible broker offering XAU/USD with reasonable spreads (most major retail brokers qualify).
  • Account type: Standard or ECN. Cent accounts work but the position-sizing math has to account for the contract size difference.
  • Leverage: Whatever the broker grants — iQntX sizes by risk-per-trade, not by nominal leverage, so 1:30 or 1:500 produces similar position sizes.
  • Prop firm: Compatible with prop firm rules; the Risk Gate enforces firm-specific daily/trailing DD caps as configured.
  • Hardware: Windows VPS, 4 vCPU / 8 GB RAM / 60 GB SSD minimum.

Who this is for

  • XAU/USD specialists who want institutional discipline applied to gold's specific quirks.
  • Prop firm operators trading gold against a 3% daily / 5% trailing cap.
  • Multi-asset operators who want gold included in their basket without the system treating gold like another FX major.

It is not for:

  • HFT operators (latency budget incompatible).
  • Pure-physical gold investors (this is a paper instrument, not bullion).
  • Operators uncomfortable with the system going DEFENSIVE around fixings.

What you do as the operator

The same discipline as any iQntX deployment:

  1. Configure the gold-specific parameters via config/instrument.json (default reasonable values shipped).
  2. Read postmortems daily. Gold's volatility means the journal is denser than for FX-only operation. Reading it is non-optional.
  3. Approve stance changes when the CEO escalates to DEFENSIVE or LOCKDOWN. The system asks; you decide.
  4. Resume after halts. Operator-acknowledged resume. No auto-recovery.

The system does the trading. You do the supervision. The combination is what compounds.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Don't see your question? Email hello@iqntx.com — we'll add it.

Why is gold (XAU/USD) different from FX majors?

Three reasons that matter for any AI system. First, gold's spread widens far more aggressively during Tier-1 news than EUR/USD — often 5-10x. Second, gold's intraday regime can switch from trending to choppy in minutes around fixing times (London, New York). Third, gold's correlation to other risk-on/risk-off instruments shifts with macro conditions. An AI that treats gold like another FX major loses to gold's specific volatility profile.

Does iQntX trade gold specifically, or as part of a basket?

Both, depending on your configuration. The system can be configured for XAU/USD-only operation (the gold-specialist setup) or for a multi-asset basket that includes gold alongside FX majors, indices, and selected crypto. The 32-agent architecture is the same; the strategy bank that's active in each instrument cluster is different.

How does the Risk Gate handle gold's spread widening?

The Risk Gate reads broker spread at the moment of signing and refuses setups when spread exceeds a configurable tolerance. For gold, the default tolerance is wider than for FX majors because gold's normal spread is wider — but the gate enforces the tolerance regardless. A spread spike during news invalidates the setup at the FactChecker step before it can fire.

What broker should I use for gold AI trading?

Any MT5-compatible broker that offers competitive XAU/USD pricing. We don't publish broker recommendations — broker selection depends on your jurisdiction, account size, and prop firm relationship — but the technical fit is straightforward: MT5 + reasonable XAU spread + execution that fires within tolerance. The EA works the same regardless of which broker you choose.

How does iQntX handle the London and New York gold fixings?

Both are flagged as elevated-volatility windows in the news/calendar layer. The Risk Gate auto-tightens around fixing times (default ±15 minutes), and the strategy bank narrows to setups proven robust to fixing-related volatility. The CEO agent may also flip to DEFENSIVE for the full fixing window if other conditions suggest unusual fragility.

What about Asia-session gold trading?

Asia-session gold has different characteristics — lower volume, wider spreads, less mean-reversion. The system's stance and strategy bank reflect this. By default, the AGGRESSIVE stance is unavailable during Asia session because the depth of the orderbook usually doesn't support full-size positions cleanly. Operators can override this if they understand the trade-off.

Is gold trading on a prop firm account possible with iQntX?

Yes, and gold's volatility makes the prop-firm drawdown caps particularly important. The Risk Gate can be configured to enforce 3% daily / 5% trailing DD limits typical of prop firms. The Macro Officer pays particular attention to gold-specific macro flow (real rates, USD index, central bank gold buying) that affects whether the stance should be AGGRESSIVE, NORMAL, or DEFENSIVE on any given day.
